V-Squad 3D spitballing
v-squad 3D: [cool subtitle pending]
-90s first-person shooter genre, as a valor campaign; but the protagonists are more akin to modern hero shooter characters thanks to the mechanics of valor. (this would replace weird weapons/powerups for the most part, since gear isn't really officially a Thing in valor, yet.)
-shoot the monsters, say the dumb one-liners, get the valor
-seasons are episodes, perhaps a one-off test season labeled as the shareware version??
-20 "stages" in that each is a map that has a start and an exit, experience is fixed. once you clear stage 1, everyone starts stage 2 at level 2, and so on, to somewhat simulate building up of gear over the course of a game. the ideal would be for stages to last 1 to 3 sessions.
-obviously need more story than the average game in the genre. want to have it be fun, silly, and not deep; but engaging enough that this isn't a dungeon crawler.
-gotta figure out how to balance the genre gameplay loop of "find keycards, unlock doors" with valor mechanics to not be a total slog. thinking the big setpiece battle rooms to be akin to doom 2016's "can't leave until you clear the fight" monster arenas.
-monster closets as a mechanic to possibly serve as a bit of filler in case a stage goes too fast?
-maybe allow players to do 1-2 personalized techs to start, give templates for basic melee/pistol at beginning, maybe also give templates later on for techs that would be different weapons? allow customization after receiving, but will need the necessary tech points to add the weapon to their loadout.
-allow personal techs over time also, fluff it as either science or magic bullshit depending on how plot shakes out
